Clinical care

Psychiatry with time to understand the person.

Every consultation begins with listening — to the person, and where it helps, to the family. The aim is a clear understanding of what is happening and a plan that fits the person's life.

Approach

How Dr. Desai works.

01

Understanding before treating

An unhurried assessment of the person's history, circumstances and strengths — not just a list of symptoms.

02

Families as partners

With the person's agreement, families are included, informed and supported, because recovery happens at home.

03

Evidence and judgement

Treatment grounded in evidence, adapted with four decades of clinical experience to the individual in front of him.

04

Clear explanations

What is happening, what the options are, and what to expect — explained in plain language, with time for questions.

05

Medication when it helps

Medicines are used where they are genuinely useful, at the right dose, with side effects discussed openly.

06

Rights and dignity

Care that respects the rights, choices and confidentiality protected under the Mental Healthcare Act 2017.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Do I need a referral from another doctor?

No. You can book directly. If another doctor has referred you, please bring their letter and reports.

Can a family member consult first, if the person is not ready to come?

Yes. Families often come first to understand what is happening and how to help. Family consultation is a regular part of Dr. Desai's practice.

Is the consultation confidential?

Yes. What you share is kept confidential, as required by medical ethics and the Mental Healthcare Act 2017. Information is shared with family members only with your agreement, except where the law requires otherwise for safety.

Will I be given medicines?

Not necessarily. Some conditions are best helped by psychotherapy, lifestyle changes or family work; others benefit from medication. Any medicine will be explained, including why it is suggested and what side effects to watch for.

Can I get a second opinion?

Yes. Please bring all previous prescriptions and reports so that the full treatment history can be reviewed.

What are the consultation fees, and are online consultations possible?

The clinic will share fees and discuss whether an online follow-up is suitable when you book.

What if it is an emergency?

Do not wait for a reply from the clinic. Call 112, go to the nearest hospital emergency department, or call Tele-MANAS on 14416 (free, 24×7).
